Expedition
Daylight ·
You only have a torch.
Each save has its own expedition, embers, upgrades and wisp stats.
Bonus modes, separate from your expedition.
Classic
On: the game fills the whole screen when you start, hiding the browser's bars. Swiping down or pressing Esc gets them back.
Colour paints the world: bark, moss, earth and kit. Black and white is the original grey look.
Kill streaks: the numbers, bzings and tier names. Quiet keeps the counter and sound without the big words and glow. Off hides it all; streaks still pay.
Searchers: the woods stay empty until a searcher's beam finds you, then the swarm comes until you're back inside the fence. Classic brings back the old hunters.
Boss weapons: beat a boss and take its weapon, carry two and swap between them. Every boss has one. Off: the torch only, as before.
Version 206

Starts by the second shrine with two teal orbs home and the third in your hands.
Starts in the middle woods with a thunderstorm a few seconds away.
Starts in the Dunes with a dust storm two seconds away.
Starts in Expedition by the Woodwarden's stones, with two orbs home. Nothing from the test is saved.
Starts at the edge of that boss's stones. Nothing from the test is saved.
Live in a walled camp and head out for loot. Carry it home to bank it and buy upgrades that last. Your torch burns oil and loot weighs you down. The further out, the worse it gets. Three green orbs wait in the deep; bring them home to the shrine. Die out there and you lose what you carried.
Everything you burn in Nightfall and Expedition leaves a violet wisp. Grab it before it fades, then spend wisps at the shop by the camp fire on upgrades that last. In Expedition, wisps only count once you carry them home. Stats on the title menu keeps your record: distance walked, enemies burned, bosses felled and more.
Shades only move in the dark and freeze in your light. Hold the beam on them and they burn. Burn every shade to reach dawn, then pick an upgrade. Each wave brings more, and new kinds.
No torch by day: gather, craft, hunt and build, and keep yourself fed, watered and warm. Nights are pitch black and the raiders come with them. Four raider camps each guard a relic; bring all four home, build the signal fire and hold out by it to walk out of the woods. Nothing happens for you: you choose when to pick up, eat, drink and heal.
Stop to search with a fading torch, then run blind for eight seconds while they flee. Two red trails show where they went. Miss them once and they're gone.
Two seconds of dark, then the torch comes on somewhere new with them hidden nearby. Find them before the light fades.
Walk the woods with rabbits, birds and fireflies.
Burn things, grab the wisps they leave, spend them here. Stats last for good, in Nightfall and Expedition.
